TATIC Project
The Tanzania Agricultural Trade Information Centre (TATIC) is part of the implementation programme of an FAO/MAFC project on Strengthening National Capacity in Agricultural Trade and Trade Negotiations Within the Framework of the Umbrella II Programme (clicking to provide details of the project). The centre act as a central information and resource centre for all stakeholders in Tanzania 's agricultural trade related issues.

Services
Our services is to provide agriciltural trade related information to our custommers. Our custommers include all government organs, private traders, various institutions and any other groups or individuals interested with our services.

The centre provides production and trade data and information for various crops and by products. This information is viewed through TATIC Database. The information is collected from various sources including Tanzania government institutions and relevant international websites.

 
Overview on Tanzania Economy
Agriculture is the leading sector of the economy of Tanzania.  Apart from providing food, agriculture remains the country's main source of income for the rural population, which forms 80% of the total population and employs 70% of the active labour force of the population. It contributes about 50% of the GDP and about 75% of the foreign exchange earnings. In Tanzania Agriculture is dominated by smallholder farmers with  farm sizes ranging  between 1 hectare and 3 hectares. Most of these smallholders use the hand hoe as the main cultivating tool. Ox ploughs are used  by about twenty percent of the farmers  and about ten per cent use tractors.

BRIDGES Weekly Trade News Digest - Vol. 10, Number 21 14 June 2006:

The Doha Round of trade negotiations was put into deep freeze on 24 July, after a meeting of ministers from six key trading nations collapsed over divisions on how to cut farm subsidies and tariffs.

It is not clear when -- or if -- the talks, which started nearly five years ago, will resume. There is no timetable for doing so. Kamal Nath , India 's commerce minister, said that the round, though not dead, "is between intensive care and the crematorium."
