TANZANIA AND THE WORLD BANK EYE FOR ENHANCING PARTNERSHIP IIN AGRICULTURE

Tanzania and the World Bank have engaged in a meaningful discussion aimed at enhancing its agricultural partnership through the Tanzania Food System Resilience Program  (TFSRP) and the newly designed World Bank’s AgriConnect Program. 

The discussion took place on the 16th of January 2026 in Berlin between Hon. Daniel Chongolo (MP), Minister for Agriculture and Ms. Marianne Grosclaude, Acting Global Director of the World Bank along the margin of the 18th Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA) in German.  

During their discussion, Hon. Minister Chongolo expressed the appreciation to Ms. Marianne on the financing and credit support through the Tanzania Food System Resilience Program  (TFSRP) of USD 300 million for sustainable food system in the country which has advanced several projects including soil health testing. 

Furthermore, Tanzania requested the World Bank to consider support on mechanization; reduce post harvest loss through storage facilities; expand on the irrigation systems; and increasing participation of private sector in the agricultural value chain.

On her side, Ms. Marianne said that Tanzania has been an instrumental pilot country in implementing program for result in the agricultural sector under its flagship program TFSRP.  She further agreed to support Tanzania’s new proposal for partnership which she said it aligns with the World Bank’s AgriConnect program aimed at transforming smallholder farming into a commercially viable and inclusive engine of growth and food security. 

She further extended invitation to the Tanzania’s Ministry of Agriculture to participate in the upcoming event of knowledge impact program, to be held in Zambia in late February 2026.
