TANZANIA AND AUSTRALIA STRENGTHEN PARTNERSHIP IN AGRICULTURAL IN RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT

The Governments of the United Republic of Tanzania and Australia have reaffirmed their longstanding strategic partnership, aiming at enhancing collaboration in agricultural research and technological capacity building. 

A discussion of mutual interest was held between Hon. Daniel Chongolo (MP), Minister for Agriculture and H.E. Jenny Da Ron. Australian High Commissioner on 2nd of June 2026, at the Minister’s sub-office in Dodoma Region. 

“Australia shares Tanzania’s interest and commitment to improving the livelihoods of small-scale farmers through research and technological support.  We have worked closely with the Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) to strengthen capacity building, ensuring that water distribution, soil management, and seedling application are technologically optimized to increase crop yields and improve farmers’ livelihoods,” said High Commissioner Jenny Da Rin. 

Agreeing with appreciation for Australia’s continued support in the agricultural sector, Hon. Minister Chongolo expressed to the High Commissioner that the Government has a vision of transforming agriculture into a modern, climate resilient, productive and commercially viable sector.  Citing initiatives such as the Agenda 10/30 and the Agriculture Master Plan 2050, the Minister underscored the importance of deepening bilateral ties and welcomed the prospect of a strategic dialogue towards a Memorandum of Understanding. 

The meeting was also attended by Ms. Angeli Damodaran, Second Secretary at the Australian High Commission; Ms. Sheila Boit of the Australian Trade and Investment Commission; Mr. Sigsbert Kavishe, Director of Policy and Planning; Ms. Tagie Daisy M., Head of the Government Communication Unit; Dr. Adela Ngatigwa, Assistant Director from the Department of Policy and Planning; Mr. Makoye Japhet from the Ministry of Agriculture and Mr. Robert Upanga from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.
