Key Message
✓ On weekly basis, the national average wholesale prices for rice increased by 1%, while those for maize, round potatoes and sorghum declined marginally by 2%, 2% and 1% respectively.
✓ Maize: Prices were highest in Bukoba, Babati and Mwanza markets, and lowest in Sumbawanga, Iringa Urban and Njombe Urban.
✓ Rice: Prices were highest in Dar es salaam-Ilala, Songea and Njombe Urban and lowest prices in Mpanda, Sumbawanga and Bukoba.
✓ Dry beans: Prices were highest in Dar es salaam-Temeke, Mwanza, and in Dar es salaam-Ilala markets and lowest in Arusha Urban, Babati, Morogoro and Iringa Urban markets.
✓ Although prices seem to follow seasonal trend, changes in prices across the markets are basically determined by supply and demand at a given time.
