PRESIDENT DR. SAMIA SULUHU HASSAN HOSTED A STRATEGIC AGRICULTURAL MEETING

President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan hosted a strategic agricultural meeting on opportunities for green grown transformation in Tanzania on 3 December 2023, along the margin of the ongoing COP28 meeting in Expo City Dubai - UAE.

The meeting was masterfully crafted by Hon. Hussein Bashe (MP), Minister for Agriculture and participated by his fellow honorable ministers from various sectors in Tanzania, key development partners the World Bank, AGRA, BMGF, WFP and AfDB supportive of agricultural issues; and other stakeholders including financial institutions. 

The participants were indulged with two documentaries that aimed at showcasing opportunities available in agricultural sector; as well as introduced to an emotional moving tale that depicted how the lives of poor farmers are inflicted with environmental circumstances for survival. 

The core objective of the meeting was to engage all partners in support of a seven years agricultural development plan that the Government has initiated in improving livelihood of small scale farmers in getting access to purported 150 irrigation schemes, 65,000 well projects that each well is purported to benefit 16 farmers under 2.6 hectors of farms all the betterment of farming activities and agri-businesses. 

The overall seven years project is approximated to cost 1.8 billion US Dollars whereas development partners have enthusiastically shown interest and readiness to support the Government’s endeavors in further improving the lives of 1.4 million small scale farmers in the country.
